Below is a list of the bass fishing tournaments in Sunset Country. For exact dates please call the contact them of visit their websites.

Shoal Lake Bass Classic - 1st weekend in July
Held on Shoal Lake, Ontario. This is the best fishery in the region with schools of smallmouths that have never seen a lure before. Smallmouths usually win this tournament, but big largemouths can be a factor. The winning weight for this two day tournament is usually in the 32-34 pound range. For more information, contact Gerald Lewis at 807-733-2560 or 807-466-8408.

English River Bass Challenge - Mid July
Tournament held on the English River System in Grassy Narrows, Ontario. It is a First Nation sponsored bass tournament on the mighty English River in Northwestern Ontario. For more information, contact Rodney Castles or Robert Swain at 807-925-1010 or 807-925-1051.

Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship - 3rd week in July
This is Canada's Largest Live Release Cash Bass Tournament, with a total of $172,500.00 in cash prizes. With a $50,000 first prize, this event on Rainy Lake attracts many of the best bass fishermen from all over North America. Two teams have dominated this event the last two years. Jim and Bill Lindner, and Ted Stewner and John Guzej have finished 1 & 2 two years in a row by targeting the big, main lake smallmouths. The winning weight for this three day event is usually in the 55 pound range. The tournament first ran in 1995 and has been growing in size and fame ever since. For more information, leave a message at 807-274-0316 or call the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-820-3678.

Kenora Bass International (KBI) - 2nd week in August
This event on Lake of the Woods offers a $30,000 first prize. Anglers here have the opportunity to fish for largemeouths or smallmouths. Largemouths have won the tournament more than smallmouths over the last few years. If the water is high, largies will win, if it is low, smallmouths will be more of a factor. The winning weight for this three day event will be in the 45-50 pound range.

Dingwall Ford Bass Tournament - 3nd Sunday in August
This a one day Bass Fishing Tournament that welcomes anglers of all ages. The tournament is held in Dryden on the Wabigoon Chain of Lakes (excluding Dinorwic Chain). There are plenty of cash and merchandise prizes to be won, in 2004, we paid out $6000.00 cash to the Top 8 teams, as well $500.00 for the Big Fish Pot and lots of merchandise including a boat & motor prize. For further details or to obtain an entry form contact Bob Nelson or Bonnie Smith at Dingwall Ford Sales Ltd. at 807-223-2235.

Atikokan Bass Classic - 2nd or 3rd weekend in August (Friday & Saturday)
Join in the smallmouth bass fishing tournament held on Dashawa, Crowrock and Turtle Lakes near Atikokan, Ontario. This chain of pristine northern waters has an abundance of big scrappy smallies. Anyone who likes fishing can enter the competition. The Atikokan Bass Classic is known as the "funnest bass tourney in the Northwest". The Competitors will begin their fishing day on Friday and the tournament will end on Saturday. In 2005, it costs only $300.00 a team to enter, and that includes a BBQ steak supper Saturday night. This is an artificial lure only - live release bass tournament. The top five teams will be awarded cash. $12,000 based on fifty participating teams. Few, and if history proves true to past tourneys, no anglers will go home without a prize. Above all, expect to find the same friendly people, great fishing and scrumptious steak dinner that participants have always enjoyed in the past. For more information call 807-597-2940 or visit our website. You can also download lake maps of the fishing area.

Dogpaw/Caviar Lake Annual Bass Challenge - Last weekend in August

Morson Bass International - last weekend in August
This is the new three day event for 2005. This tournament will take place at the Morson Government dock with a "big tent" and Lionel Roberts as MC for weigh-ins. It will be a blast.

Bassin for Bucks - 2nd weekend in September
This three day event in Sioux Narrows has a different format than the rest of the events we get to fish. Instead of just giving out prizes at the end of the tournament, organizers at this event give out prizes after each day of fishing as well. They also have a separate prize category for kids making it a popular father/son event. Fishing in Sioux Narrows is hot at the beginning of September; just ask Joe Pritchett and Hiram Archibald who brought in a 21.5 pound bag in 2003. The winning weight for this tournamanet is usually in the 48 pound range, but it could go higher if the big Whitefish Bay largemouths bite.

Crow Lake Classic - 3rd week in September

Last Chance Bass - 3rd week in September
