Reels on Wheels is not a charity (YET!). It is a ’self-funded’ organisation which Nick &
Rosie hope will become a Registered Charity in the not too distant future. All the
documents for the Charitites Commission’s application form are being assembled with help from legal
experts and our dynamic duo at Freebird Design Ltd. It is dependent on the generosity of like-minded people who support the Buddy System concept.
:: The primary aim is to complete the Reels on Wheels Buddy Bus Road Trip around the
UK by the end of this year and to find as many buddies as possible. To complete the Road Trip properly, as
we would wish, ideally a bigger Bus would serve the purpose - the idea being to promote angling for everyone, talk to all
sorts of community groups of all ages, visit family- and disabled-friendly fishing venues and provide information about angling,
the Environment Agency, the NFA/NFSA and NUBA, to name but a few pertinent organisations.
:: Once registered charity status has been achieved, fund-raising will begin in earnest in order to help
others by donating funds to them for:-
a) improvements to fisheries who are struggling with budgets to provide access for all;
b) festivals - like South Cerney - who benefit many through their activity;
c) individuals who need support relevant to our cause;
:: The secondary aim is to attract enough funding from sponsors who believe in the Buddy System and bringing
anglers back to the sport, to create a base here in the South West where families, teens, adults, able- and less able/disabled
people can fish safely and be offered tuition (if they need it).
From there, we aim to create as many Reels on Wheels funded fisheries as we can throughout the UK, which will be as disabled-
and family-friendly as Bideford Angling Club, using local people in each area, local expertise and providing local employment
as and where possible.
:: Nick’s goal is to create a thriving, nationwide community of buddies and be able to provide
them with transport, if it’s needed, to help others less able to get back out and fish as often as they can. Ideally,
a fleet of large cars and/or minibuses would enable lots more people to rediscover their passion for angling and form lasting
friendships. This will change their quality of life for many people.
:: Ultimately, Nick’s goal is to publicise and promote the Buddy System and his passion for angling,
globally. He will go wherever he’s wanted/invited, speak to groups of children, youths, adults, families….
whoever wants to hear about it.
:: NOTE: This sounds ambitious, but it IS achievable!
:: Wherever you see the Buddy Bus out and about, there will be a Donations Tub
beside Nick. Friends of the Angler’s Wife have also hand-crafted fabulous fishing-themed greeting cards
which you can purchase, to support us in that way. These cards, aswell as keyrings and Buddy System Caps
can also be purchased online through the Reels on Wheels Shop.
We have a limited quantity of T.S.Brown pewter pins, all of fish, which we are selling to raise funds
to keep the Buddy Bus on the Road. If you’d like a photo of Nick and yourself when you meet him (for
posterity’s sake or your album), please drop a donation in the Tub and he’ll be happy to oblige.
It all buys fuel for the Buddy Bus and keeps the Road Trip going.
And, of course Nick wants to carry on fishing - the Marlin World Cup 2008, being the next goal on completion of the
UK Road Trip.
:: We have set up a Reels on Wheels bank account and a “Donate”
button has been placed on all the relevant sites. In the meantime, if you’d like to donate by cheque or postal order,
we do have a paying-in book for that account. Cheques/postal orders should be made out to Reels on Wheels.
